IonQ Advances Quantum Co-Design with Sandia and Launches Tennessee Quantum Communications Center with EPB

IonQ has signed an MOU with Sandia National Laboratories to accelerate quantum co-design for national security applications at the Quantum Demonstration Facility while simultaneously launching the Tennessee Quantum Communications Research Center with EPB. The latter is funded by a five-year $15 million (€13.0 million) commitment and will house the first commercial Quantum Memory on a live fiber network. The initiatives expand IonQ’s New Mexico national-laboratory presence and deepen its Chattanooga commercial networking footprint. Both build on prior technical collaborations in ion-trap fabrication and the existing EPB Quantum Center.

Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative Launches TN QuantumWorks K-12 Quantum Education Initiative in Tennessee

The Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative has launched TN QuantumWorks, a comprehensive K-12 quantum technology and career awareness program developed by Thinking Media. Piloted in Hamilton County Schools with support from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the initiative introduces age-appropriate quantum concepts from elementary discovery activities through high school programming on real systems. It connects classrooms to higher education pathways at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and commercial resources at the EPB Quantum Center. The program aims to build a complete education-to-workforce pipeline in Tennessee’s growing quantum ecosystem.

Central New Mexico Community College Demonstrates Quantum Technician Training Model at National Workshop

Central New Mexico Community College hosted a Quantum Educators Workshop in early June 2026, introducing its Quantum Technician Bootcamp to 45 faculty members from across the United States. The 10-week program requires no math or science prerequisites and has already led to graduates being hired by quantum companies in the Albuquerque area at salaries around $80,000. Developed in partnership with Sandia National Laboratories, the bootcamp is part of the Elevate Quantum Tech Hub’s workforce efforts covering New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. Workshop participants explored hands-on curriculum in areas like quantum information systems, Qiskit, quantum key distribution, and atomic quantum systems to adapt for their own institutions. By sharing this replicable model, CNM is helping to build a broader talent pipeline for the growing commercial quantum industry.
