U.S. DOE Extends Funding for Midwest Integrated Center for Computational Materials

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the renewal of the Midwest Integrated Center for Computational Materials (MICCoM) with $3 million annual funding for the next three years. Founded in 2015 and headquartered at DOE’s Argonne National Laboratory, MICCoM collaborates with esteemed universities including the University of Chicago, University of Notre Dame, and University of California, Davis.

Center director Giulia Galli, a senior scientist at Argonne’s Materials Science division and a professor at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and Department of Chemistry, commended MICCoM’s leadership in advancing simulation methods and solving cutting-edge materials science challenges.

MICCoM’s mission revolves around the application of theoretical methods and software to unravel and predict atomic and molecular-scale properties of materials, crucial for designing new materials across various fields.
