Pasqal Demonstrates On-Chip Atom Trapping with Photonic Integrated Circuit Toward Fault-Tolerant Scale
Pasqal has demonstrated trapping of individual rubidium atoms using laser light delivered and controlled by a photonic integrated circuit, which the company describes as a first for neutral-atom systems. The four independently addressable traps achieved atom lifetimes in line with existing bulk-optics platforms. Pasqal estimates the architecture can shrink optical hardware by up to 50 times en route to systems exceeding 10,000 atoms and 100 logical qubits.
