IonQ Advances Quantum Co-Design with Sandia and Launches Tennessee Quantum Communications Center with EPB

IonQ has signed an MOU with Sandia National Laboratories to accelerate quantum co-design for national security applications at the Quantum Demonstration Facility while simultaneously launching the Tennessee Quantum Communications Research Center with EPB. The latter is funded by a five-year $15 million (€13.0 million) commitment and will house the first commercial Quantum Memory on a live fiber network. The initiatives expand IonQ’s New Mexico national-laboratory presence and deepen its Chattanooga commercial networking footprint. Both build on prior technical collaborations in ion-trap fabrication and the existing EPB Quantum Center.

EPB Quantum Hosts First Quantum in Business Conference

EPB Quantum will host the inaugural Quantum in Business Conference on October 1, 2026, at The Westin Chattanooga. The event is designed to help companies in finance, healthcare, insurance, chemicals, logistics, and automotive industries gain a first-mover advantage in the projected $2.7 trillion quantum computing opportunity.
Sessions will feature leaders such as IonQ’s CEO Niccolo de Masi and Dr. Shaun Gleason from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Attendees will learn practical steps to develop quantum solutions, potential grant funding sources, and Tennessee’s role in quantum technology commercialization. EPB Quantum offers the first U.S. facility with both commercial quantum computing and quantum networking.
