Zero Point Cryogenics (ZPC), one of only six companies worldwide that designs and manufactures the cryogenic infrastructure quantum technologies rely on, is opening its first international Innovation and Service Hub at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) in Chicago. Cryogenic Infrastructure for Quantum Systems

Most quantum technologies cannot operate without specialized cryogenic cooling because quantum bits, or qubits, perform accurately only at temperatures close to absolute zero. Zero Point Cryogenics develops and manufactures dilution refrigerators and related cryogenic equipment used in quantum computing, quantum sensing, and low-temperature scientific research. Founded in 2017 and based in Edmonton, Alberta, the company is Canada’s sole manufacturer of dilution refrigerators and one of six global suppliers of this critical infrastructure.

ZPC will supply its cryogenic systems to the IQMP, a 128-acre campus on Chicago’s South Side backed by the State of Illinois and managed by an organization affiliated with the University of Illinois. The park brings together private and public sector organizations into a unified ecosystem of quantum researchers, manufacturers, and suppliers. By co-locating research and development, sales, and service operations at the park, ZPC strengthens access to its technology for other tenants and collaborators.

US Hub Supports Commercial Expansion

The Chicago Innovation and Service Hub positions Zero Point Cryogenics to strengthen relationships with government, defence, universities, research institutions, and industry partners advancing quantum technologies across North America. Supported by the State’s Manufacturing Illinois Chips for Real Opportunity Act (MICRO) Program, the company will make a substantial capital investment and create more than 20 new high-growth specialized jobs in Illinois. The expansion was welcomed by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and officials from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Chicago is the first of several planned hubs in the United States, Europe, and Asia. CEO and co-founder Chris Cassin stated the company needs a presence in key markets while remaining inherently Canadian, noting Canada is a global leader in quantum technologies and Zero Point Cryogenics has a responsibility to keep cryogenics in the Canadian quantum supply chain. Headquarters, engineering expertise, and advanced manufacturing continue to anchor global growth from Alberta. Co-founder John P. Davis and members of the ZPC team were welcomed to the IQMP by Governor Pritzker.
