At the Institute of Science and Technology Austria, with collaborators in Munich and Madrid, two superconducting transmon qubits a metre apart settled into a persistent entangled state by sharing a quantum-correlated microwave field from a Josephson parametric converter—no pulse sequences, heralding, or feedback. Physics World notes this is the first laboratory realization of a two-decade-old dissipation-engineering proposal. Concurrence is only about 0.10.
