The Qubit Report: October 1, 2026
Dip your whiskers in The Qubit Report for this 1st day of October, 2026. We gathered the headlines, then analyzed, sorted, and synthesized the report below. Read the links or get caught bluffing.
Cash, Losses, and a CEO’s Checkbook
WISeKey doubled the top line and still printed a wider loss, which is the quantum-security mood in one sentence. The WISeKey results note puts unaudited first-half revenue at about $11.4 million, up roughly 116 percent, gross margin near 48 percent, about $495 million in cash and restricted cash, and a SEALSQ pipeline it says exceeds $225 million through 2029. Operating loss was $40.9 million and net loss $36.4 million. A direct Nasdaq and SIX listing as WISeQey is expected in October.
The SEALSQ medical note says Grenoble subsidiary IC’Alps, ISO 13485 and in the group since August 2025, designs low-power secure ASICs for implants and connected devices. Product story, not a qubit count.
Closing this section out, the Quanome loan note says CEO Yang Li agreed to a revolving facility of up to $15 million at 6 percent, non-dilutive, Audit Committee approved, Li recused. Working capital, not a priced round. Quantum X Labs filed, which is not a grant. And, the LayerQake filing covers a method aimed at rare and anomalous events. A filing waits on an examiner.
States Are Building the Floor
New Mexico is collecting tenants the way a food hall collects lines. Elevate Quantum is moving into the 35,000-square-foot Roadrunner Quantum Lab in Albuquerque, beside Sandia, Los Alamos, and a pack of startups, per the Elevate Quantum note. Open-access cryo testing is the draw.
Diraq is one of those tenants. The Diraq lab note says a measurement team and Maybell cryo gear should be working by year end, with targets of 150,000 physical qubits on one chip by 2029 and more than 2 million by 2031. Those are targets.
Quantum Machines is narrating the wider race. Its state-by-state brief treats shared labs, not slide decks, as the unit states are competing on. Florida already tried the organizing move.
The Florida Quantum launch, stood up at Tech Basel Miami with Matt Cimaglia and Tony Jimenez beside the Florida Alliance for Quantum Technology, is the template: a brand, a capital desk, and a standing invite. Tennessee is not waiting on a brand. The EPB launch note, albeit from mid-September, put an IonQ Forte Enterprise on the floor at the EPB Quantum Center in Chattanooga, next to a network that already had a head start. A strategy PDF and no fridge makes you the control group.
Europe Rewrites the Org Chart
Pasqal hired the lawyer you hire when the ticker is real. The Pasqal legal appointment names Florence Lao chief legal officer, nearly 20 years in governance, capital markets, and M&A. The same week, the French authorities note says Pasqal is leaving defense program LSQUARE, also called PROQCIMA, after phase-one technology goals, and turning toward civil fault-tolerant programs that Paris has asked it to propose. No euro figure is in the release.
Sweden built a front door. The Lund University centre, chaired by Peter Samuelsson and launched with Anne L’Huillier, Stefan Kröll, and Martin Leijnse, is meant to stop Lund’s quantum work from living in separate faculty inboxes. The Nordic call already has a pile.
The NordForsk call note says 93 of 186 applications to the G7-Nordic quantum call included Nordic partners, with NordForsk’s slice capped at 7 million Norwegian kroner per project. Half the inbox is a flex. Canada, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US are in the other half.
Machines That Want a Customer
Quantum Computing Inc. wants the variable count in the headline. The Dirac-3S announcement says the next optimization machine scales to nearly 10,000 variables, with demos up to 9,980, a 5U base plus expansion modules, and a first customer shipment expected in November. It also says Dirac-3S was the only solver in its test set to hit the optimum from 2,000 to 9,980 variables. Treat that as a vendor benchmark.
D-Wave opened a side door to gate model without shipping the fridge. The D-Wave beta note puts a dual-rail, error-aware gate-model simulator in front of BBVA, FirstQFM, Florida Atlantic University, and the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, through Leap and Ocean. Beta. The hardware is still forthcoming.
QuantLase is selling a photonic detour. The QuantLase readiness note walks a Photonic Intelligence Processing Unit from lab concept to market-data pilots on seven tickers. A blog is not a purchase order.
Terra Quantum and Empa stayed in the factory. The Terra Quantum report describes LP-FNO, an AI surrogate that predicts 3D laser-weld melt pools in about 8 milliseconds, claimed up to 100,000 times faster than conventional multiphysics. Useful if you melt metal. Not a qubit.
Fault Tolerance Clocks In
Classiq stopped admiring circuits and started asking if they fit a lattice. The Classiq engine note says the Fault Tolerance Engine maps logical circuits onto a 3D surface code, schedules lattice surgery, and estimates logical error. A tensor-hypercontraction example with 219 logical qubits and more than 2.5 million gates routed in about an hour.
ParityQC and Innsbruck did the spin-qubit version. The ParityQC benchmark note says Parity Twine cuts quantum Fourier transform pulse count by more than 22 percent and depth by more than 50 percent versus reference builds, with a native bit-flip and leakage check. They showed a unit with up to 18 exchange-only qubits. Alice & Bob tried to calm the cat without a microwave pump.
The Alice & Bob note, with ENS Lyon, says a DC bias around 1.1 microvolts drove a 3 MHz two-photon exchange, faster than prior pumped couplers, and could switch photon-exchange order on the same device. Preprint, not a SKU.
The materials people crashed the meeting. The Fermilab SQMS study of 22 transmons found oxide thickness, sidewall angle, and trench depth can account for up to a twofold spread in T1 on chips made from the same stuff. A pretty circuit on a messy film is a short story.
Networks That Want a Zip Code
Europe put a number on the next internet phase. The Quantum Internet Alliance says the European Commission is backing a 42-month push with €47.5 million to integrate a full-stack prototype and link two metro networks by fiber and repeaters. Innsbruck is taking a slice. The Innsbruck prototype note says the University of Innsbruck and AQT get €5.4 million of that pot to link trapped-ion processors, three machines in the plan, over hundreds of kilometers.
Notre Dame is trying a stranger wire. The Notre Dame award note gives Dafei Jin $1.35 million from the Moore Foundation to park single barium ions on solid helium and couple them to superconducting circuits. Florida’s other quantum story is a testbed, not a brand.
The FSU testbed note says NIST put $2.1 million into a Tallahassee link that will shake entangled photons with turbulence, magnetic fields, and cryogenic cycling. Hannover already put entanglement on a real fiber. Light: Science & Applications reports a four-qubit time-bin cluster state sent over 29.5 km of partly deployed fiber. Authentication is the boring layer that keeps that fiber from being a party line.
Quantum Science and Technology published hybrid protocols that mix classical PUFs with entanglement so a single round can claim exponential security. La Palma wants the same photon counting pointed at the sky. The IAC interferometer note says the Pathfinder will tie the Nordic Optical Telescope to the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, about 550 meters apart, with first science aimed at spring 2028.
Matter, Prizes, and the Inbox
Zinc oxide wants a seat at the spin-qubit table. The Tohoku University note, with NIMS and the University of Tokyo, reports charge sensing, radio-frequency reflectometry, and a few-electron double quantum dot in ZnO. Spin readout is the next homework.
Tokyo University of Science found a ruler for weird magnets. Its Tsai-type study says lattice parameter sorts whirling antiferromagnetic, ferromagnetic, and spin-glass states around 14.62 to 14.72 angstroms. Not a computer. A map you might later regret ignoring.
ANU spent three years coating LIGO beamsplitters to within a nanometre or two across a 45-centimetre disc. The ANU coatings note says only two groups on Earth can do that job. People got badges.
Sydney Quantum Academy added Mohammad Rowshan, a UTS fellow chasing practical qLDPC codes so fault tolerance does not eat the qubit budget. The UC Riverside note says Yongtao Cui is one of 21 Moore Experimental Physics Investigators, $1.35 million over five years, to microwave-probe collective modes in 2D materials. Malaysia handed out ecosystem trophies. The MIMOS award list names four Quantum Leadership Awards, spanning finance, industry, quantum science and security, and semiconductors.
Bottom Line
This Quantum Computing Wrap-Up caught shared labs, public-company lawyers, and full-stack network money in the same inbox, which is how a science fair turns into an industry.
